HIGHLIGHTS:
Sunset Ridge School District 29 is seeking an exceptional leader to serve as the next Superintendent beginning July 1, 2026. The Superintendent is responsible for all aspects of District leadership, management, and operations of this premier school district in North Cook County, IL.
- In a community that highly values education, the motto “one child at a time” demonstrates the core belief that every child is inherently valuable and worthy of attention and support.
- With a reputation for excellence in education, District 29 is in the highly desirable suburban North Shore area just 20 miles north of downtown Chicago and 15 miles from O’Hare International Airport. Easy access to interstate highways, airports, commuter trains, recreational facilities and high-end shopping make the community an ideal spot to live and raise a family.
- The District consists of two schools: Middlefork School, serving students in kindergarten through 3rd grade; and Sunset Ridge School serving students in 4th through 8th grade.
- The District houses approximately 500 students. Depending on the grade level, class sizes range between 15 and 20 students. The small class size and an advantageous teacher-student ratio support the District’s child-centered philosophy. The school day, schedule, teaching practices and educational settings at both Middlefork and Sunset Ridge School are tailored to provide a developmentally appropriate, yet rigorous, learning environment.
- The high level of parent support and involvement contributes significantly to the success of District 29. Parents are actively engaged and present on both campuses and contribute in District decision-making.
- A recipient of Financial Recognition status from the Illinois State Board of Education for the past several years, the District’s financial health is strong. The District recently built the state-of-the-art twenty-six million dollar Sunset Ridge School without a referendum and associated tax rate increase.
- District 29 graduates who continue in public school attend New Trier High School where they join students from five other New Trier Township districts. Nearby private high school options include Loyola Academy, North Shore Country Day School, and Regina Dominican High School.
