The Charyl Stockwell Preparatory Academy High School seeks a proven secondary school leader to serve as principal of this high performing public school academy. Core values of the academy include high expectations, developmental whole child approaches, and continuous progress mastery learning systems, and using intrinsic motivation methods in highly engaged learning environments. Experience in intellectual secondary models such as Classical Education, IB and Hillsdale required. Master’s Degree and Michigan HS Principal certification required. Experience in a private, charter or college prep school is preferred.
The mission of the Charyl Stockwell Academy District is to provide a safe and enriching place for children to grow from early childhood through adolescence, while providing those children with a rigorous education that will prepare them for their success in college, career, and life. The academy is deeply committed to providing a need-fulfilling environment that educates the whole child, with high expectations for quality work and academic performance. The K-12 educational model addresses the intellectual, social/emotional, physical, and moral/character development of each individual child. The educational methodologies the academy utilizes are grounded in best educational practice that is confirmed by extensive research.
Intellectual rigor in a warm and nurturing environment free of coercive methods and interventions is central to our mission. Research on the brain and learning presents compelling evidence that children of all ages must feel emotionally safe in a school setting in order to fully maximize their learning potential.
The academy uses a continuous progress/mastery learning model with a component for the academically gifted student to insure intellectual challenge and rigor. The academy promotes methods that build upon every child’s intrinsic motivation to learn to insure an emotionally safe and need-fulfilling environment. The moral development of our students is addressed in a curriculum infused with a strong character education program.
