District Narrative
With a mission of Equity, Growth, and Excellence for All, the Shorewood School District has a long history of academic excellence, with graduates across the nation who are at the top of their fields in science, the arts, law and public service, among other careers. Shorewood is a racially and economically diverse district with over 1,900 K-12 students and 258 employees. Student families speak more than 37 languages. The District also includes the Shorewood Recreation and Community Services Department which serves District families, Village residents, and surrounding communities.
Students in Shorewood School District engage in authentic learning experiences that build their capacity to innovate, work together to solve problems, and contribute to the common good. We are committed to advancing equity by employing a systems approach and advancing an asset-based mindset. The District is currently in its third year partnering with Integrated Comprehensive Systems for Equity (ICS) which has included professional development for staff and administrators and Ally Academies for parents, caregivers, and community members. The District prioritizes whole-child wellness, with integrated K-12 SEL curriculum and a partnership with Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin to support students’ needs at school.
Shorewood is located along Lake Michigan, just north of Milwaukee and near the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where students have opportunities to engage in college-level learning and teachers have access to outstanding professional development.
